What this card does

It has an ability called Stormy Winds that lets you attach energy to it when played from the hand.

It can deal massive damage with Dragon Break based on how many Grass and Lightning energies it has.

It can discard its own hand to draw ten new cards with Tempest GX.

Signature ability

Stormy Winds

When you play this Pokémon from your hand onto your Bench during your turn, you may discard the top 3 cards of your deck. If you do, attach a basic Energy card from your discard pile to this Pokémon.

The key feature is Stormy Winds. When you play Rayquaza GX from your hand to the bench, you discard three cards from your deck and attach a basic energy card from the discard pile to it. This helps build its power quickly without needing to search for energy normally.

Attacks

GLC
Dragon Break30×

This attack does 30 damage times the amount of basic Grass and basic Lightning Energy attached to your Pokémon.

G
Tempest GX

Discard your hand and draw 10 cards. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)

Which deck it belongs in

This card suits aggressive decks that focus on dealing high damage early in the game. It works well with strategies that already use Grass or Lightning energy types.

Strengths
  • High damage potential
  • Fast energy attachment
  • Card draw capability
Watch out for
  • One GX attack per game limit
  • Fairy type weakness
  • Discards useful cards with Stormy Winds
Pro tip

Use Stormy Winds to recycle basic energies you have already used, rather than discarding key support cards.

From the Pokédex

Rayquaza lives in the ozone layer and is said to circle the globe for a whole year without ever landing.

Note for the parent

Explain to your child that using Tempest GX means they lose their current hand, so it is a big risk and reward move.
