Ready to be a trainer?
Everyone starts somewhere. Even the world number one was once where you are now, holding their first deck and figuring it out. Here is how to begin.
Four things to know first
Build a team you like
Pick Pokémon you think are cool. Your deck has 60 cards. The cards do the work, you do the thinking.
Race to six prizes
Knock out your rival's Pokémon to win Prize cards. Grab all six and you win the game.
Count as you go
Add up damage, count your energy, work out your best move. Your brain is your strongest Pokémon.
Shake hands every time
Win or lose, say good game. Everyone remembers a kind player, and you make friends fast.
Your first league night
A league night is at a game store near you. It is relaxed and friendly, and lots of other kids are learning too. You can even borrow a deck to try. Here is the trainer's code to remember:
- Have a go. You learn the most by playing, not by reading.
- Ask questions. Every good player was once confused about the rules.
- Lose well. A loss just shows you the next thing to learn.
- Win kindly. Be the player everyone wants to face again.
- Have fun. That is the whole point. The rest follows.
You could go all the way
Kids from Australia and New Zealand are some of the best players in the world right now. Start at your local store, keep practising, and who knows where it takes you.
