Which group am I in?

Age groups, made simple

Pokémon splits players into three age groups, called divisions, so you always play people around your own age. Here is how to find yours.

Age groups, explained in a minute

The three divisions

Your division is set by the year you were born, not your birthday on the day. These are the cut-offs for the 2027 season, worked out automatically, so they are always up to date.

Junior

Born in 2015 or later

The youngest trainers, usually primary school age.

Senior

Born from 2011 to 2014

The in-between group, usually early high school age.

Masters

Born in 2010 or earlier

Older teenagers and adults.

Find your division

Pop in a date of birth and we will tell you the division for the 2027 season.

We work the year out from your device's date and the 1 September season changeover. Around that date, double-check against the official Play! Pokémon page before you register.

Two things to remember

  • The groups change over on the 1st of September each year, when a new season starts. After that date, the birth years shift along, so always check the current season before you sign up.
  • If only a few players turn up in one division, smaller events sometimes mix the groups together for the games, but each division still has its own winners. So you only ever compete for prizes against players your own age.

Want to know what division your child is in? The checker above works it out for you from their birth month and year.
