What this card does

Raging Bolt ex is a Basic Pokémon, so it needs no evolving and can attack from turn one if set up well. It is a fast, aggressive card.

Its damage is not fixed. The player decides how big each hit is by how much Energy they are willing to spend, which makes it a deck about resource management as much as raw power.

Signature attack

Bellowing Thunder

You may discard any amount of Basic Energy from your Pokémon. This attack does 70 damage for each card you discarded in this way. (70× damage)

The player may discard any number of Basic Energy from their Pokémon, and the attack does 70 damage for each one discarded. Discard three and it hits for 210, enough to knock out most attackers in the game. The skill is choosing when to spend big and when to hold back.

Attacks

C
Burst Roar

Discard your hand and draw 6 cards.

LF
Bellowing Thunder70×

You may discard any amount of Basic Energy from your Pokémon. This attack does 70 damage for each card you discarded in this way.

Which deck it belongs in

The star of the Raging Bolt ex deck, which uses cards that load lots of Energy quickly so it can throw out a giant hit early.

Strengths
  • Attacks from turn one as a Basic Pokémon
  • Damage scales as high as your Energy allows
  • Can knock out almost anything in one hit
  • Burst Roar refreshes a poor hand
Watch out for
  • Weak to Dragon attackers
  • Discards its own Energy to attack, so it can run dry
  • Needs fast Energy acceleration to work
  • Gives up two Prizes as an ex

Pairs well with

🃏
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex

The usual partner, adding Energy and a backup attacker.

Pro tip

Count the Energy you can spare before each Bellowing Thunder. Overspending to knock out a small Pokémon can cost you the next turn.

From the Pokédex

Raging Bolt is an Ancient, paradox form of Raikou. Its thunderous, all-or-nothing power matches an attack that grows the more Energy you pour in.

Note for the parent

The plain Double Rare printing is affordable. Be aware there are pricier collector versions of the same card with fancier art, but they play identically.
