What this card does

The Retreat Cost of each Basic Pokemon in play increases by one Colourless Energy.

This rule applies to both your side and your opponent's side.

What it does

Mount Lanakila

The Retreat Cost of each Basic Pokémon in play (both yours and your opponent’s) is Colorless more.

This card adds an extra Colourless Energy to the retreat cost for every Basic Pokemon on the field. It matters because moving a Pokemon to the Bench becomes more expensive for everyone, which can slow down the pace of the game.

Which deck it belongs in

It suits decks that want to control the flow of battle by limiting how often Pokemon can switch positions. This is useful if you prefer to keep your attackers in place rather than rotating them frequently.

Strengths
  • Universal effect
  • Slows down movement
  • Controls the Bench
Watch out for
  • Affects own Pokemon
  • Only impacts Basic Pokemon
  • Makes switching expensive
Pro tip

Use this card when your opponent relies on moving their attackers to the Bench to heal or reposition.

Good to know

Mount Lanakila is a real volcano located in Hawaii and is the highest point in the state.

Note for the parent

Remember that this card affects both players, so your child will also find it harder to retreat their own Pokemon.
