Ho-Oh-GX
Rotated OutA powerful fire starter that recycles its own heavy hitters from the bin.
What this card does
It deals 50 damage to an opponent's Pokémon with Sacred Fire.
It can deal 180 damage with Phoenix Burn but must rest next turn.
It uses Eternal Flame-GX to put up to three powerful Fire GX or EX cards from your discard pile onto the bench.
Phoenix Burn
This Pokémon can't use Phoenix Burn during your next turn. (180 damage)
The key ability is Eternal Flame-GX. It lets you retrieve strong Fire Pokémon like Charizard-GX from the discard pile and place them on the bench ready to fight. This matters because it gives you a second chance to use your most powerful cards after they have been knocked out.
Attacks
This attack does 50 damage to 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)
This Pokémon can't use Phoenix Burn during your next turn.
Put 3 in any combination of Fire Pokémon-GX or Fire Pokémon-EX from your discard pile onto your Bench. (You can't use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)
Which deck it belongs in
This card suits decks built around Fire-type Pokémon-EX and Pokémon-GX. It works well when you expect to lose strong attackers so you can bring them back later.
- •Recovers powerful cards
- •High damage output
- •Strong attacker presence
- •Weak to Lightning type
- •One-time use ability
- •Must rest after big attack
Save Eternal Flame-GX for when you have knocked out a valuable opponent's Pokémon or need to replace a lost ally.
Ho-Oh is said to bring happiness to those who catch its rainbow plumage.
Remember that your child can only use one GX attack in the entire game, so they must choose carefully between Phoenix Burn and Eternal Flame-GX.
