Giant Stump

Rotated Out

A Stadium card that limits how many Pokemon you can keep on the bench.

StadiumBeginner to play

What this card does

This card stays in play until another Stadium card is played.

It forces each player to discard Benched Pokemon until only three remain.

What it does

Giant Stump

This card stays in play when you play it. Discard this card if another Stadium card comes into play. If another card with the same name is in play, you can't play this card. Each player can't have more than 3 Benched Pokémon. When Giant Stump comes into play, each player discards Benched Pokémon and any cards attached to them until he or she has 3 Benched Pokémon. (You discard your Pokémon first.)

Giant Stump restricts both players to a maximum of three Pokemon on their bench. This prevents decks that rely on having many Pokemon waiting in reserve from being effective.

Which deck it belongs in

It suits competitive decks that need to control the pace of the game. It is useful against strategies that depend on stacking multiple Pokemon.

Strengths
  • Bench control
  • Disrupts big benches
  • Long term effect
Watch out for
  • Discards your own Pokemon too
  • Replaced by other Stadiums
Pro tip

Play this early to stop your opponent from building a large bench of attackers.

Good to know

The name Giant Stump suggests a very old and large tree that has been cut down.

Note for the parent

Explain to your child that this card stops them from hiding extra Pokemon behind their active one.
