What this card does

It can attach five Energy cards from the discard pile to itself before attacking.

If it uses this ability, Electrode-GX is immediately Knocked Out.

It has an attack called Crush and Burn-GX that deals 30 damage plus 50 for each Energy discarded.

Signature ability

Extra Energy Bomb

Once during your turn (before your attack), you may attach 5 Energy cards from your discard pile to your Pokémon, except Pokémon-GX or Pokémon-EX, in any way you like. If you do, this Pokémon is Knocked Out.

The Extra Energy Bomb ability lets you rapidly power up your bench by moving five Energy cards to this Pokémon. However, using it forces Electrode-GX to faint, so it is a one turn setup tool rather than a lasting fighter.

Attacks

LC
Electro Ball50
LC
Crush and Burn-GX30

Discard any amount of Energy from your Pokémon. This attack does 50 more damage for each card you discarded in this way. (You can't use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)

Which deck it belongs in

This card suits aggressive decks that want to unleash a huge attack in a single turn. It works best when paired with other cards that can quickly replace the lost Pokémon.

Strengths
  • Massive damage potential
  • Fast energy setup
  • Shiny rarity appeal
Watch out for
  • Self-destructs upon use
  • Only one GX attack per game
  • Fighting type weakness
Pro tip

Use the ability to power up a different Pokemon on the bench instead of keeping it on Electrode-GX if you want to avoid the Knock Out.

From the Pokédex

Electrode evolved from Voltorb and is known for its volatile nature due to the electrical sacs inside.

Note for the parent

Explain to your child that using the ability is like a sacrifice play, as the Pokemon will be removed from play immediately after setting up.
