Dark Golduck
Rotated OutA defensive Water and Darkness type that can block attacks or disrupt opponent energy.
What this card does
Darkness Shield lets you flip a coin to prevent all effects of an attack during your opponent's next turn if it lands heads.
Cold Crush deals 40 damage but allows you to discard one of your own Energy cards to also discard an Energy from the Defending Pokémon.
Cold Crush
You may discard an Energy card attached to Dark Golduck. If you do, discard an Energy attached to the Defending Pokémon. (40 damage)
This card offers two distinct strategies. You can use Darkness Shield to protect your Active Pokémon from incoming damage and effects, or use Cold Crush to deal moderate damage while removing an Energy resource from your opponent.
Attacks
Flip a coin. If heads, prevent all effects of an attack, including damage, done to each of your Active Pokémon during your opponent's next turn.
You may discard an Energy card attached to Dark Golduck. If you do, discard an Energy attached to the Defending Pokémon.
Which deck it belongs in
It suits decks that rely on controlling the board state by hindering the opponent's ability to attack effectively. It works well in control strategies that value protecting key Pokémon over dealing rapid damage.
- •Attack prevention
- •Energy removal
- •Defensive utility
- •Weak to Lightning types
- •Coin flip reliance
- •Self-energy cost
Use Cold Crush when your opponent is low on Energy to accelerate their exhaustion.
Dark Golduck retains the psychic abilities of its predecessor Psyduck while gaining a darker, more aggressive edge.
The coin flip in Darkness Shield means protection is not guaranteed, so plan for the possibility that an attack might still land.
