How you actually win a game, listen instead

Lots of new players think the goal is to do the most damage. It is not. The goal is to take all six of your Prize cards first.

When you understand the race to six, you start making better choices every turn.

What Prize cards are

At the start of the game you put six cards face down. These are your Prizes.

Every time you knock out one of your opponent's Pokémon, you take one Prize card. The first player to take all six wins.

Why this changes how you play

Some Pokémon give your opponent more than one Prize when they are knocked out. A Pokémon ex gives two. A Mega Evolution gives three.

So a clever player thinks, which knockout gets me closer to six, and which of my Pokémon can I afford to lose.

  • Count your Prizes out loud each time you take one.
  • Ask, what do I need to knock out to win, and in what order.
  • Try not to give away easy two or three Prize knockouts.
Remember
  • Win by taking all six Prize cards.
  • ex Pokémon give two Prizes, Mega Evolution gives three.
  • Always know how many Prizes you and your opponent have left.
